Frequently asked questions.

  • We ask for a minimum of £2000 per person.

    This allows us to cover all of the costs involved with taking the team to Chennai, and funds the resources and activities in Chennai.

  • Your fundraising covers the cost of flights, visas, insurance, travel in India, accommodation, project resources.

  • Before we fly you will need to ensure you have a passport.

    You will also need to pay for vaccinations and travel to in-person meetings.

    In India you will need to buy lunch and dinner (breakfast is provided), and any “tourist” activity (cinema trips etc)

    We recommend around £200 - £300, which should also be enough to come away with some gifts and mementoes!

  • If you wish to use your mobile phone we suggest getting an eSIM for your phone as the most cost effective way to get your phone to work whilst out and about.

    If you only want to contact people in the UK then there is WiFi at our accomodation.

    There is no need to have a phone for the project

  • We will take a mix of vehicles at various times, minibuses, cars, UBER and the iconic Auto Rickshaw (Tuk tuk).

    We sadly cannot allow people to travel by motorcycle

  • A typical day starts at 8.45 with a team meeting, and there can then be planned sessions all through the day until around 6pm.

    Some of this will be face to face leading activities, but there will also be times where you are shopping, preparing or visiting our Charity partners.

    There will be some time set aside for sightseeing

  • Breakfast will be our YMCA accommodation.

    Lunch will either be a a local restaurant, or an on the go style thing (not quite a meal deal!)

    Dinner will be a a range of local restaurants. We make sure that we go reputable establishments.

    Cuisine is typically South Indian, or Indo-chinese.

  • We stay at YMCA Vepery in Chennai.

    All rooms are ensuite twin rooms, with air conditioning.

  • We will provide you with at least two litres of water to drink everyday!

    There is the option for you to buy other drinks, the only thing we do not allow is alcohol.

  • Always follow the advise of health professionals and speak to your GP.

    As well as standard immunisations that you may need in the UK, Hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus are recommended.

  • Team member health is very important to us, partly why we will supply you with clean water to drink.

    We spend most of our time in a busy city, that is well served by high quality medical care.

    Medical costs will be covered by travel insurance.
